Planning on being Valkyrie for Halloween? Or want to cosplay Valkyrie for a future comic-con? Well, I am here to help you out!

Valkyrie (her real name is Brunnhilde however she’s commonly known as Valkyrie) is a character from the movie Thor: Ragnarok, played by the actor Tessa Thompson. Her personality is very spunky, and she has a very bad drinking habit. For a majority of the movie, she toys with Thor and the Hulk who are both stuck in a universe on the other side of the world, but ultimately helps them beat Hela, the main villain. You can read more about her character here.

She wore two different outfits in this movie, but in this blog post we are going to focus on her first one. This is a great costume for those who don’t want to dress up “too much”, but still wants to look a bit extravagant.

Below, I will give you some feedback on the Valkyrie costume, how to “jazz it up” some more, and any other tips that come to mind. Hope you find this helpful!

Valkyrie Costume

First Impressions of the Valkyrie Costume

So I had purchased Valkyrie’s costume online from this seller. My main criteria was to find 1. a costume that looked very realistic, and 2. A seller that had great reviews and could get it to me in a reasonable time. There are many different versions on Aliexpress, but the good reviews and detailed description of the outfit is what sold me.

And guys let me tell you, when it finally arrive I was so pleased and happy with it. The costume looked almost exactly like what Valkyrie wore in Thor Ragnorak and was very well made. The body armor along with the sleeve was made out of what seems to be PU Leather. The pants had a more spandex leather type of feel to it, and as a result it wasn’t stretchy at all. Keep this in mind when choosing a size – I would recommend going a size up for this reason alone.

Everything That Came in the Package

I bought the costume in a size medium, which I am grateful that I did because it fit me perfectly. I think that a size small would’ve been too tight on me. As for reference, my measurements are 32C-26-36. I wear a size small top and size medium pants normally.

One minor issue I ran into was that the grey arm plates (very bottom of the picture) were too big for my tiny arms. However, I was able to keep them up by using body tape. You can also install Velcro tape to make it more tighter.

SO with that being said – Below, I had created a guide on how to make her look more “official” since I couldn’t find another guide online. I’m hoping this helps you guys out!

Valkyrie’s Hair

I tried to find pictures of different angles of Valkyrie’s hair to try to see what style she wore. It seems as though she made a flat braid that turns into a mini bun, and the remaining leave out was put into two ponytails. I decided to keep it a bit simple (since the bun wasn’t staying for some reason) and put my hair into a small “bump” with a high ponytail. Kinda like that style that was popular back in the late 2000s/early 2010s era.  I had also curled the ends of my hair by using a curling wand and then brushed it out. This will help achieve the very loose curl look she had going on.

Valkyrie’s Shoes

On Aliexpress, there is an option to buy the shoes that looked almost exactly like what Valkyrie wore in the movie. You can buy it along with the costume for about $40-$50 extra bucks or separately. However, I decided to buy my own pair via Amazon, mainly because the original shoe contained a heel and I wanted my feet to be comfortable. In the movie her boots had a heel so if you want to be as exact as possible, then I’d suggest going for the shoes on Aliexpress, though I cannot give you an exact review on it.

The shoes I bought were a black pair of knee high boots from Amazon. When searching for a pair of boots, my goal was to find something that was stylish enough to wear on an everyday basis with normal clothing. And I believe these boots did its justice! I added some insoles just to increase the comfort of them since I knew I would be walking all day, but overall they fit just right.

Armor

The costume I ordered didn’t come with any of her weapons or extra stuff (which the listing clearly explained in the description). But you can find Valkyrie’s items on-line – for instance, a quick Etsy search shows a few sellers who have made a replica of her sword. I also found an Amazon store that sells her daggers, however it is pretty expensive.

Face

Doing the makeup for Valkyrie was not that hard. It seems like she had a natural smokey eye look going on, along with some contour, and that was about it. Also, the pattern of lines on her face were not too complex. I used these face crayons which had its pros and cons – the pros being that it lasted literally all day long and did not come off even through sweat, the cons being that it was very hard to apply (but I did it over foundation, so my mistake). You can also try face paint, like this one from Amazon which is great for line work, but you would want to be careful about paint, especially if you have oily skin. To set everything, I used Makeup setting primer.

In order, I used the following makeup items:

  1. Orange Color Corrector (if you have dark circles around your eyes/spots on your face, like me)
  2. Foundation
  3. Concealer
  4. Laura Mercier Setting Powder
  5. LA Girls Liquid Contour
  6. LA Girls Naked Palette
  7. Eyeliner
  8. Mascara
  9. Eyebrow Pencil
  10. Face Crayon
  11. Finishing spray

And that is it! If I were to rate this costume, I would give it a 9/10 (it loses one point mainly because of the sizing issue). Hope this helps out and if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below! 🙂
